Out of season fruits
Hi Barry, Cindy, and bootcampers: I love everything about the program. My problem is that blueberries are out of the stores (at least here in South Florida), and strawberries are on their way out (they are getting fewer, and the quality isn't as good - at several stores). I have tried various brands of frozen ones, but I can't even get them down - they are sooooo horrible to my tastebuds. Any suggestions for alternatives? Thanks.

    Hi again Princess Layah,

You are absolutely right about the sugar, especially since you are trying to lose weight. The smoothie options are ok if you are just trying to compensate for the out of season fruit. But, in your case I think the best thing will be to get the organic, naturally unsweetened juice from the health food store. It is more expensive, but you can dilute it with a 1:1 ratio with water or throw in green tea and a handful of strawberries or grapes and make your own smoothie. Just don't add sweetener!

Good luck and let us know how the reunion goes!

Yes, but the last time I was at Whole Foods the strawberries didn't look good, so I wasn't sure how long they would be stocking them. If they're in stock all year, that's great.

Cindy, aren't juices a no-no on the Code Red diet because of the amount of sugar? I have been doing Code Red (admittedly, a bit off and on), trying to get some weight off before my HS reunion in Nov., but if you're ok with the juice option, I'm good with it. Yes, cost is important, but not so important that I'd sabotage myself for a few dollars.

Thanks for the tips. Keep them coming ok

Did you try Whole Foods! You will have to pay more but I think they have them year round.

    HI Princess Layah,

It's too bad you can't find frozen blueberries you like, because this a great way to get all their nutrients! Have you tried to use them only in the blender to make your own smoothies?

Well, if frozen is out of the question I would suggest organic and natural juice from stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. These run a bit pricey, but maybe there is room in your grocery list to cut out something else you do not need and replace it with blueberry juice. You can also get a lot of good from Naked's Blue Machine and Odwalla's Blueberry Monster. Both are loaded with Vitamin B's, C and fiber. They give you energy and 1 small bottle can fulfill up to 4 servings of fruits for the day.
