Barry's Bootcamp | Post | Surviving Thanksgiving!

Post
Okay, this last Halloween I asked one of your fellow Bootcampers, Aubrey (who has reached her goal and is still going strong), to help me write the blog and tell how she was going to handle being around all that candy.  She did such a great job, I asked her to 'fess up about what she was going to do to prevent her from over-feasting this Thanksgiving. She has some fantastic advice, so listen up folks; Aubrey knows how to talk turkey.

1. Don't skip breakfast, or lunch if your big dinner will be late in the day. Get your metabolism going with a light, healthy breakfast. Starving yourself all day can slow down your metabolism and make you eat way more than you would have if you ate early in the day.

2. Start out with a salad, veggies and a healthy dip or cocktail shrimp instead of unhealthy appetizers.

3. The good news is that Turkey is good for you! White meat without a ton of gravy all over it is great! Baste the turkey in apple juice or herbs instead of butter. Low carb stuffing can be wonderful. Make it with fruit, herbs, nuts, and veggies. Sweet potatoes are great "naked"! Or you can add cinnamon and a spray of no calorie margarine or Ricemallow (marshmallow fluff made from brown rice syrup) is a nice treat instead of marshmallows on your sweet potatoes. Veggies as sides are perfect of course! There are some yummy, healthy recipes you can look up at http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Holiday---Celebration-Recipes. Just don't look at the unhealthy ones...ha ha ha! Oh, and stick to one helping :) no seconds...or thirds.

4. If you must have dessert, try one made from fruit or Jell-o. There are many healthy desserts you can make with pumpkin too. If you are skipping dessert, have a dessert tea! They have no calories and they come in so many flavors.

5. Resist the urge to just lounge around after you eat. Take a walk, get out and throw a football around, just keep active. Eating all that food and just sitting around after won't be a good thing. This is something I have really noticed. When I started having  a "cheat meal" once in a while, after I hit my goal, I walked the mall, went shopping, or cleaned the house after eating, just kept active and I was still smiling when I saw the scale the next day. Barry would say not to weigh in the day after Thanksgiving :)  Right Barry?

6. Keep the leftovers healthy too. A healthy turkey sandwich or wrap with a salad or veggies. Or an egg white omelet with turkey and leftover veggies.

7. When cooking and baking, try not to nibble. The calories really add up fast.

8. Make time for your workout. I will work out for sure Thanksgiving night, then I will spend the next day burning calories at the mall, on my feet shopping all day!

Have a wonderful, healthy, happy Thanksgiving!

Love ya Barry!

Love, Aubrey

Right back at you, Aubrey!  Thanks for all those great tips.

Now if y’all have anything to say, please say it.  I’d like to think that we can all help save each other at this most fattening time of the year.  So let me hear from you.  That’s an order!

These are great tips Audrey, thanks for taking the time to put them together for us.
As for me I have everything plan out, I am getting up at 6:00 a.m. and doing the Extreme 1000 workout. As far as the food, I have recently just reached my goal so there is nothing going to ruin all the hard work I have put in. I will make sure I follow Audrey’s tips so I can enjoy the holiday. Barry Thanksgiving holiday is the perfect opportunity for me to thank you for helping me change my life and for helping me feel and look great. Barry Happy Thanksgiving to you and all the fellow Boot Campers.

Thanks Aubrey and Barry for the great post!!!! For me personally I know that I will eat on thanksgiving and I am not going to cheat my self on one of the best days of the year that said I also know that I have come way to far to mess up now...SOOOO I intend to know how many calories I can have that day and divide them between breakfast snack lunch dinner and snack so that why I can have all the foods I want just a little protion of them throughout the day so I will feel I ate what I wanted but still stayed in my calorie range....Plus I will do my 2 BBC dvds no matter what...and the following days after thanksgiving with leftovers I will do the same...always making sure I stay in my calorie range but not depriving myself of the good food other wise for me I know I will over eat later if I try to hold out and not eat it....I always have to be realistic with my self..I am human and I want a yummy slice of pie so I will have one but it will be add in my calories...But that is how I plan to survive the holidays
