Okay, this last Halloween I asked one of your fellow Bootcampers, Aubrey (who has reached her goal and is still going strong), to help me write the blog and tell how she was going to handle being around all that candy. She did such a great job, I asked her to 'fess up about what she was going to do to prevent her from over-feasting this Thanksgiving. She has some fantastic advice, so listen up folks; Aubrey knows how to talk turkey.

1. Don't skip breakfast, or lunch if your big dinner will be late in the day. Get your metabolism going with a light, healthy breakfast. Starving yourself all day can slow down your metabolism and make you eat way more than you would have if you ate early in the day.
2. Start out with a salad, veggies and a healthy dip or cocktail shrimp instead of unhealthy appetizers.
3. The good news is that Turkey is good for you! White meat without a ton of gravy all over it is great! Baste the turkey in apple juice or herbs instead of butter. Low carb stuffing can be wonderful. Make it with fruit, herbs, nuts, and veggies. Sweet potatoes are great "naked"! Or you can add cinnamon and a spray of no calorie margarine or Ricemallow (marshmallow fluff made from brown rice syrup) is a nice treat instead of marshmallows on your sweet potatoes. Veggies as sides are perfect of course! There are some yummy, healthy recipes you can look up at http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Holiday---Celebration-Recipes. Just don't look at the unhealthy ones...ha ha ha! Oh, and stick to one helping :) no seconds...or thirds.
4. If you must have dessert, try one made from fruit or Jell-o. There are many healthy desserts you can make with pumpkin too. If you are skipping dessert, have a dessert tea! They have no calories and they come in so many flavors.
5. Resist the urge to just lounge around after you eat. Take a walk, get out and throw a football around, just keep active. Eating all that food and just sitting around after won't be a good thing. This is something I have really noticed. When I started having a "cheat meal" once in a while, after I hit my goal, I walked the mall, went shopping, or cleaned the house after eating, just kept active and I was still smiling when I saw the scale the next day. Barry would say not to weigh in the day after Thanksgiving :) Right Barry?
6. Keep the leftovers healthy too. A healthy turkey sandwich or wrap with a salad or veggies. Or an egg white omelet with turkey and leftover veggies.
7. When cooking and baking, try not to nibble. The calories really add up fast.
8. Make time for your workout. I will work out for sure Thanksgiving night, then I will spend the next day burning calories at the mall, on my feet shopping all day!
Have a wonderful, healthy, happy Thanksgiving!
Love ya Barry!
Love, Aubrey
